Reserve Cup Football

Cargin 6-22 Ahoghill 4-2

Cargin were clinical in their opening round Reserve Cup win over Ahoghill in Cloney last night running up a massive total of 6-22 in a very impressive display. The home side stuck with them in the early stages but once they hit their stride there was no stopping the Erin’s Own side.

When there’s a will, there’s a way – Erin Neeson ,Einin Neeson, Enya Neeson, Rachel Neeson, Nicola Doherty, Conon Doherty, Aoife Neeson and Aoibhinn Neeson, watch the Ahoghill v Cargin Reserve Cup game from the garden of Doherty’s house which is just beside the pitch. No rules broken and the only thing dissapointing for them was the result

After an early exchange of points Cargin grabbed their first goal through centre forward Enda McGroggan and when McGroggan added three quick points the gap began to open. However Ahoghill grabbed a lifeline when centre half back Michael O’Connell broke through to score the first goal of a brilliant hat-trick to bring his side back to within three.

Cargin hit back strongly and hit six points without reply to open the gap to nine before O’Connell popped up again with the second of his hat-trick, and they home side should have had another seconds later but their right half forward blasted wide of an open net. Cargin made them pay finishing the first half strongly as they hit a further 1-2 before the interval to open up a 2-12 to 2-1 lead.

The visitors were even more dominant in the second half as they hit 2-4 in the opening ten minutes, before O’Connell grabbed his third goal with another great finish. Cargin came back with two more of their own, one of them a real ‘worldy’ from Michael Clarke, but the goalrush wasn’t finished yet as Ahoghill midfielder Sean McMahon found the back of the Cargin net.
