Reserve Cup Football – Group 1
St. Gall’s 5-16 Aghagallon 0-13
St Gall’s swept St Mary’s aside in this Reserve Cup Group 1 game with a flurry of goals on a sun kissed evening in Milltown.
The first goal came just on the first water break when Conn Doherty received a pass in front of goal and he palmed it home. He repeated this just before half time when a “45” wasn’t dealt with in the Aghagallon defence. Other than the goals the first half was even enough with both teams taking their points, the highlights being a great solo effort by David McAlernon who caught the ball in mid field and soloed until he found his range and then everyone in green was delighted to see Chris Loughran get a point on his return to competitive football after a long battle with injury.
Half time 2:07 to 0:08
However, the hosts stepped it up a gear in the second half and Aghagallon had no answer. Brendan Bradley opened the scoring and he was instrumental in everything St Gall’s did in the second half notching up an individual tally of 1:04 but contributing to a lot more of the scores. With the upper hand St Gall’s confidence grew and their willingness to move for each other carved open chance after chance.
Kevin Bradley got the third goal for St Galls, and Doherty got his own third straight after that, just on the second water break Brendan Bradley got his final score, winning the ball and driving the ball hard and low into the bottom corner of the net.
Aghagallon’s goal was scored by Anselm Henry who collected a Jonny Harbinson pass but it was merely a consolation.
