HomeFit ACFL Div.1
St. Mary’s Ahoghill 3-13 St. Mary’s Aghagallon 1-10
Ahoghill collected their first points of the season in division 1 of the ACFL last night with a great win against Aghagallon. They got off to a great start and a peach of a goal from PJ O’Connell, who lobbed the ball over the keeper to get the first score, sent them on their way.
The home side were totally dominant in the opening quarter and were well worthy of their lead at the first water break. Dan O’Neill’s goal was the result of a great team effort as the ball was moved quickly through the hands of 6 players before releasing O’Neill on the edge of the square to fire to the net.
Aghagallon were a more lively team at the start of the second half, but couldn’t close the gap enough before Ahoghill broke out of defence and set up James O’Connell to fire a great left footed shot across the keeper into the corner of the net for the Cloney side’s third goal and put them in a very strong position.
The visitors continued to push forward, but great defending from James Magee and his full back line forced Aghagallon to shoot under pressure as there wide tally mounted. Ahoghill will be pleased with their first win but they need to eliminate the small mistakes and be more clinical around goal.
