Con Magees got their Division 1 league campaign off to an impressive start on Monday night at Fr Maginn Park when 2021 Junior Champions, Glenavy came visiting.
The first 10 mins was end to end football as both teams got stuck in. The Glenravel forwards were put under strong pressure from the Glenavy defense and it was Ellen Morgan who split the post first for the visitors after 10 mins. Torie Edgar restored parity soon after and Aisling Mulholland pushed the Glens girls into the lead. When Ellen Morgan equalised on the 15 minute the tie was well set.
That said a ruthless Glenravel squad would go on to not concede the rest of the game as they took control across the park. Try as Chapel Hill girls did, time and again the Glenravel defense overturned possession and quickly transitioned into attack. Their forwards grew in confidence and by the time Stephen Higgins blew the half-time whistle all of the home starting forwards had got on the scoresheet and they led by 1-9 to 0-2, the goal coming from Aisling Mulholland.
There was no let up after the change of ends as Glenravel continued to press forwards. the missed several chances but Toir Edgar made sure of the win when she fired in two more goals.
Although both squads were missing key personnel this was overall an entertaining game.
Glenravel though impressive tonight, will face a tough test next time out away to 2021 Intermediate champions St Brigids. Glenavy tonight missed the influence of Grainne McLaughlin & Anna Mulholland and will regroup at home next week against Moneyglass B
