Armoy had too much firepower for Con Magees

Antrim Hurling League Division 2

Armoy 3-17 Con Magees 0-13

Glen Rovers Armoy ran up a big score against visitors Glenravel in Division 2 of the Antrim Hurling League in Armoy. The home side had just too much scoring power for a Glenravel team who were too dependent on Niall Donnelly, the veteran centre forward score O-11 of his team’s total of 0-13. Armoy on the other hand had a spread of scorers that were impressive with Owen Kinney and Trevor Linton most impressive.

For most of the first half Glenravel stayed in touch, despite going three points down early on as Liam O’Hara (2) and PJ McBride gave Armoy the lead. James Duffin got Glenravel’s first score but from then until a minute from the end it was Niall Donnelly who did all their scoring, all but two of his eleven points coming from frees.

Just two minutes before half time there was only two points between the sides as Armoy lead by 0-6 to 0-4, but as the game entered first half injury time an Owen Kinney goal stretched the home team’s lead to five 1-6 to 0-4 at the short whistle.

It was Kinney who got Armoy’s first score of the second half, and though James Duffin pulled one back the tide was now flowing strongly in Armoy’s favour. Thomas Burns knocked over a point and Tarlach McBride grabbed his team’s second goal before Trevor Linton tacked on a point. Niall Donnelly came back with three in a row, two of them from frees, but Linton, McBride and Watterson all added points before Tommy Burns grabbed his team’s third goal to wrap it all up.
